This work talks about the standardization of cities, more precisely about their high streets, due to the proliferation of big chains of shops and restaurants.
I picked out five big brands (Benetton, Esprit, McDonald’s, Starbucks and H&M) and I went to different towns in order to photograph scenes of every day life that occurred in front of these shops. I then reduced them to a theatrical decor, recognisable especially by their logo.
The pictures have a reassuring and familiar aspect to them because these chains have become part of our urban landscape. That is why when we look at these pictures we have the impression that we recognize them when in fact we have absolutely no indication of their location.
